First, the Komodo Island is located near Nusa Tenggara, which is famous for the diving site, beautiful marine life, and remarkable underwater life.

The second reason for Komodo Island is the NEW 7 Wonders of the World is that the Komodo dragon is rumored to be the only descendant or remain of dinosaurs that are still alive until now. The Komodo dragon got its name from the body shape. It’s the biggest living lizard today. The komodo can grow to 2 or 3 meters of length with 70 kilograms of weight. The unique and gigantic shape has been the indigenous part of the island and also the animals because there are no other animals that come with that size. The komodo also got the name dragon since the physical shape is the closest one to the dragons in Chinese myth or stories. Dragons don’t exist – that’s obvious – but once people see the Komodo dragon, they might think that the mythical creatures come to live.

The third reason is because the komodo is only found in Indonesia, in that particular island of komodo and not anywhere else. There’re various kinds of komodo dragons in the island. The local people call them ora. The animal has great body and scary-looking appearance that make it famous as carnivore animals. The animal might be big and burly, but it can move fast and even run. It can even climb tree. Maybe it’s one of the unique characteristics that make New7wonders foundation choose the komodo as the nominator in voting for Komodo Island is the NEW 7 Wonders of The World.
